Miguel Parra, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Parra is a highly accomplished maternal-fetal medicine physician. He has been involved in research projects related to restricted uterine growth, premature childbirth, Zika and neurodevelopment, and fetal surgery.

  • In 2017, he received an honorable mention by its alma mater, Santander Industrial University (UIS) in Colombia, as one of the most accomplished alumni.

  • In 2011, the Colombian National Academy of Medicine awarded him with an honorable mention for his work titled “Prediction of preterm birth using the cervical consistency index."

  • In 2016, he was recognized as an “Honor Member” of the Cuban Academy of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

  • In 2011, and again in 2009, he received an honor mention by the Spanish Society of Prenatal Diagnostics for the best research project.

  • In 1984, Dr. Parra graduated with honors from high school; then he obtained top grades at his medical school admission test; and then again in 1992, he graduated from medical school achieving the top of his class.

  • In 1992, Dr. Parra graduated cum laude from UIS’ medical school.

  • In May, 1993, he was nominated for the best medical student award in Colombia and was ranked as the top three students in the country.

  • In 2009, Dr. Parra received an honorable mention at the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB), Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

  • In 2012, Dr. Parra obtained his master's degree in maternal-fetal medicine from the University of Barcelona in Spain with a dissertation titled “Added value of umbilical vein flow as a predictor of perinatal outcome in term small-for-gestational-age fetuses."

  • In 2014, he obtained a Ph.D. cum laude degree from the University of Barcelona with a dissertation titled “Placental Findings in Late-Onset Small for Gestational Age (SGA): Correlation with Doppler Signs, Perinatal, and Neurodevelopment Outcome.”

  • From 2005 to 2017, Dr. Parra has had a myriad of academic appointments at recognized universities in Colombia including,

    • Universidad Industrial de Santander, Universidad de Santander - Bucaramanga

    • Universidad Libre, Universidad Simon Bolivar, Universidad de Norte (the leading university in Colombia's Caribbean coast), Universidad San Martin - Barranquilla

    • Universidad de Cartagena, Universidad del Sinu -Cartagena
